There is a bit of a delay between pressing B and when the wag comes out so timing is important. Wagging deflects most of the game's enemy projectiles and does an unimpressive 4 damage to things. Pocky swings her magic wand and Rocky wags his magical tanooki tail. Pressing the B button makes you do a wag animation. Getting the sage in stage 3 is a big detour that is not worth it. We trigger the sage in stages 1, 2, 4, and 5. That's really hard to do intentionally and so we'll just say there is a 3 in 7 chance of getting a sage at each opportunity.
